I have spent some time in thought lately over the book (or at least the first one completed) whether or not to include this theory, in which is “evolving” in association with the material and books I am reading…and current events. The current events went very quickly from…the Olympics, hosted in China (what historical and cultural transcendence that was) to the political races of the U.S. then Canada, simultaneously with the “Credit-Economic-Crisis-Syndrome”. I do not think we are seeing anything that was anticipated, but may in the end…as painful as it is…the one thing that had to happen.
There is a new world order unfolding, with little foresight on how it will be scripted. The “Status Quo”, had to go…and now we are seeing frenzied stock markets and failures of some very powerful, once very lucrative institutions. “Who is to blame”, is being asked around the world. Much reflection, of a place rooted in the reality of “value” of consumerism…brings us to question much of the ethics of business and government for that matter. Who ultimately is responsible is all of us, who had bought into the “American Dream”, and “lifestyles of the Rich and Famous”, to be the wish list of most children growing up in this capitalist society.
I give you a thought…may you contemplate all that it may mean. The world is changing, that is actually beyond our control now, it is at the mercy of many things including, “uncertainty, anxiety, speculation and fear”. I have written about the aspects of power, control, competition, exploitation, discrimination and oppression…and much of the uncertainty comes from these main sources of societal engineering.
For a look at an incredible “fictional” take on what would/could have been our destiny, had we continued on the path of “government” and “corporate control”, to the likes of 1984 (Big Brother…H.G. Wells) and A Brave New World (Aldous Huxley). These are satire, at it’s finest, but in some humbling way, and even though they were written many years ago, there is perhaps some important things to think about. The “Great Depression” is not well understood, even by those that lived through it…but there are some parallels…and unfortunately there was a “hay day” period like “the roaring twenties” that left many back then…as equally uncertain, anxious, speculative and fearful…out of the world order of the thirties rose some ideologies that we still seek to understand…and many ponder the regret. Where are we now, on a global perspective of “certainty”…and are there ideologies today that we do not quite know what to make of.
One of the “emerging” phenomenon…in this New Paradigm, for a New Earth…or Brave New World of the 21st century…is the “mind-set” of those who seek to be “ahead of the game”, or “in charge of their destiny” (and everyone else’s).
We have long made inquiry into the “Type A” personality…often attached to men…and later making reference to “The Alpha Male“. What we are seeing more of, is the evolution of the “Alpha Female”. Now before I go any further with this theory, do know that I am not attaching any notion of ” finding a mate”…or about dating or sexuality. I am merely pointing at aspects of leadership and demonstration of confidence and knowing what one wants from life.
As of late we have a couple examples of Alpha Females…Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton. Many would argue that Gloria Steinam was as much an Alpha Female as she was a feminist. I think most would argue, there is inclusion of both features…to be an Alpha female would as suggest a feminist. Again, let me clarify (now for the men mostly), that there are many different types of feminist…the Social Feminist seeks equality for all( gender neutrality), while the Liberal Feminist, is more likely competing against male dominance, for the sake of seeking female dominance (one gender over the other).
So, before I receive any heated comments back from my daughters and others…this is not a discussion on feminism. This is not to say that women cannot be a leader or a dominant force…in say even a male dominated workplace or profession. (I sense that a number of female lawyers and female physician are “Alpha” by nature… and that is a good thing…there would not likely be greater equalization occurring without these women that are leaders.
So, for clarity to now, this is not about men vs women, women vs men, nor is it about sexuality…or dating. What I would like to suggest in this theory, is there is no need to consider, whether it is a valid concept to think in terms of Alpha, vs Beta vs Omega, when it comes to personality. Just as I say…it is not Yin or Yang, it is yin and yang. It is feminine and masculine…it is Alpha and Omega…or should I say, Alpha, Beta and Omega. The most balanced of persons are those that are of service to others (as if an Omega), is skillful at negotiation (Beta) and Omega…always first to compromise, or leads by example.
WE should aspire to greatness, plain and simple. Being Alpha- Omega, suggests we slide into leadership positions, and are respected for our self-less service, we lead by example and we have diplomacy “rolling from our lips” before a conflict arises.
This is a worthy goal for one’s self for many a reason. In the presence of someone we wish to have a relationship with (future client, co-worker, a person you would like as a friend…or partner). You may find that life becomes more easy, less conflict, less grief. Further the value system with which we would like to see upheld, we are likely to have .
Zen and the Art of Human Becoming, is the philosophy that will lead to transforming into an Alpha-Omega. This is not to be confused with Type A vs Type B.
